Dance
For Fun was originally founded in 1979 by Cindy Bizek,
teaching dance and cheerleading in Parks and
Recreation and Community Education programs in
Detroit,
Redford,
Livonia,
Southfield, and
Farmington
Hills while
attending high school at Bishop Borgess. A Michigan All-State
cheerleader, Cindy coached many middle school cheerleading
squads as well as Varsity cheerleading at
Ladywood
High
School. Cindy
danced professionally in the Detroit Disco Dance Company,
but took a more serious approach to her studies at the business
school at The University of Michigan in
Ann
Arbor.
During 1981-1983, Cindy was a cheerleader for the Wolverines. It was
at U of M that Cindy met her "Prince Charming"
and married Bill Bass in 1984. Shortly thereafter they moved
to Connecticut and
from 1984 until 1991 Cynthia Bass worked at Chemical Bank in
New
York. Enjoying Broadway
shows and taking master dance classes was a great escape for
the wall street stockbroker. Cynthia also
studied dance in Boston,
MA
learning the unique style of Isadora Duncan which was the
basis for her thesis at The University of
Connecticut. She continued teaching dance and pilates
at Bethel
Parks and
Recreation from 1989-1997. Cynthia also worked part time at
Laura Ashley as an interior decorator. When Bill's job brought the
Bass family to Michigan, in
1997, Cynthia started an interior decorating business "Romantic
Interiors." Missing dance, Cynthia started working with Lake
Orion Community Education introducing "Diaper Dancing" with her
toddler daughter, Abigail. Miss Cindy then went on to introduce
her Dance For Fun concept in affiliation with Clarkston Community
Education and Waterford
Parks and Recreation. As the sessions passed
Miss Cindy's classes became more and more popular, and she taught
more and more classes. Although happy at the thought of
introducing children and beginning adults to dance through the
community programs, Miss Cindy realized her students were frustrated
when they tried to continue their dance training at other
studios. The world of dance had become intense, competitive and
very expensive. Looking for a dance studio that shared her love
of dance and similar philosophies to send her own dancing children,
Miss Cindy found ....nothing. In 2002 the Bass family opened
Dance For Fun at 4800
Joslyn Road.
The commitment to quality with an emphasis on fun is evident in
everything we do. It is no surprise that enrollment at Dance
For Fun has steadily increased, and we now have 2 dance studios as
well as continue to teach through many local community
programs. The world of competitive dance requires time,
financial, and physical commitments and sacrifices on a dancer and
their entire family. "5 years ago everyone wanted their
daughter to be another Brittany Spears. Now we all know
better," says Miss Cindy. Shouldn't family come first,
school second, then hobbies. We think so! And so do the
families and the many school teachers that bring their children to
Miss Cindy and her qualified staff that embrace her beliefs. Our
name says it all: DANCE FOR FUN!
